About this campaign
My name is Matt Bezuidenhout. I am 17 years old and currently in Matric at Hilton College. I have always had a deep passion for nature, and some of my fondest memories were made in the bush. As I have grown up, I have become increasingly aware of the threats wildlife faces and the critical importance of conservation.
Rangers are the unsung heroes of this fight. Without them, the wildlife and wild places we all love run the risk of disappearing forever. Sadly, many rangers are underfunded and lack the proper equipment, training, and resources needed to carry out their work as effectively as possible.
Last year, I was privileged enough to take part in Run For Rangers and witnessed first-hand just how much the money raised was needed and the incredible impact it had on rangers' ability to do their jobs. Seeing the difference these funds make inspired me to take on the challenge again.
This year, I will be participating in Run For Rangers, covering 100 kilometres over two days through the Babanango Game Reserve. As part of my participation, I have committed to raising R15,000 in support of Project Rhino. These funds will go directly towards equipping rangers with the training, technology, and resources they need to protect our natural heritage and stop poaching before it happens, while also contributing towards my entry fee for the event.
Very rarely in life are you presented with an opportunity to make a tangible difference. I consider myself truly fortunate to have that opportunity here by running for such a worthy cause. As many of my mates would tell you, I am not a runner by any stretch of the imagination, but if pushing myself through a grueling 100km challenge means rangers gain access to much-needed support and resources, then I am absolutely up for the challenge.
Any support, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference and help ensure that those who dedicate their lives to protecting our wildlife have the tools they need to continue their vital work.
